Grape value is down 14 percent in 2024 Napa County Agricultural Crop Report

The gross value of all agricultural production in Napa County was $1,035 million in
2024 – a 14.3 percent decrease from the previous year Napa County — Agricultural
Commissioner Tracy Cleveland reported, as part of the 2024 Napa County Agricultural
Crop Report during the May 20 Napa County Board of Supervisors meeting.
Wine grape production
The total value of the 2024 winegrape crop was $1,031 million, down 14.4 percent or
$174 million from the previous record-setting year.
Total winegrape production decreased by approximately 23,632 tons or 13.8 percent
from 2023.
The total winegrape tonnage for the 2024 crop (147,182 tons from 45,967 bearing acres)
was 0.8 percent higher than the previous 10-year average of 145,999 tons, and the total
winegrape value was 28.5 percent higher than the previous 10-year average.
The average price paid per ton for all winegrapes was $7,005, a 0.7 percent decrease
from 2023.
In 2024, the highest average price paid for a major Napa County winegrape variety was
$11,332 per ton for Cabernet Franc. There were 1,270 bearing acres of Cabernet Franc in
2024.
Top wine grape varieties
In 2024, the top three varieties in total value were Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and
Merlot, which accounted for approximately 74 percent of all production and 82 percent
of the total winegrape value.

Approximately 78,536 tons of Cabernet Sauvignon (24,839 acres) were harvested and
sold at an average price of $9,146 per ton.

Chardonnay (5,662 acres) production exceeded Merlot (3,515 acres) by 2,147 bearing
acres but sold at $962 less per ton on average. Merlot production was 10,921 tons,
valued at an average of $4,752 per ton.
Chardonnay production of 18,951 tons was valued on average at $3,790 per ton.
Value of other crops and livestock
Olive production decreased by 125 tons in 2024 resulting in a decrease in value of
$280,400 from the previous year.
Total livestock and poultry values increased $297,100 from those reported in 2023, and
field crops increased $115,000.
Vegetable crop values were $167,300 higher in 2024 with a 24 percent increase in
harvested acreage.
Floral and nursery production area decreased by approximately 3.5 percent, while the
overall reported dollar value declined to $95,700 in 2024.
