West American Canyon Road was closed to cars and opened to celebration Wednesday night as the city kicked off this summer’s first Meet Me in the Street event, transforming the corridor into a vibrant open-air festival filled with food, music and community spirit.

The free, family-friendly street fair will take place every second Wednesday through August, with upcoming events scheduled for July 9 and Aug. 13.

More than 140 vendors and over 30 food trucks lined the street, offering everything from Filipino comfort food and smoky barbecue to boba teas and fresh funnel cakes. Kids practiced their swings at a mobile golf simulator while teens laughed and wandered with friends, and families strolled from booth to booth.

“The point of Meet Me in the Street is to highlight what the culture is in American Canyon,” said Valarie Zizak-Morais, president and CEO of the American Canyon Chamber of Commerce.

The event has grown significantly since it began in 2021 as part of the city’s post-pandemic economic recovery efforts. Back then, it featured just 10 food trucks and about 50 vendors. This year, it’s the city’s most favored summer tradition.

“We launched it and didn’t know what would happen, and it became a very popular event in American Canyon,” Zizak-Morais said.

Attendance has surged year over year. According to Zizak-Morais, last year’s event drew about 8,000 people, and similar crowds are expected again this summer.

In addition to the bustling vendor scene, the festival offers wine and beer, live music, magic shows, a kid zone, and other activities to keep attendees of all ages entertained.

For Ariana Abdon, a 23-year-old entrepreneur who runs a local, small business making jewelry called Crystal Wood Crafts, the event is both a celebration and a vital opportunity.

“It means so much to me that so many people show up and support me,” Abdon said. “Meet Me in the Street is one of my favorite events in the city. It brings so many people together.”

Attendees said the event is a great way for them to connect with friends, family, try new and different foods, and explore what their community’s small businesses are creating.

Those looking to take a break from the high-energy atmosphere can cross over into nearby Northampton Park, where quiet pockets of grass offer space to eat, rest, or simply enjoy the warm summer evening.

As the sun dipped below the hills and the music continued to play, the mood was unmistakably joyful—a shared moment of connection and celebration in the heart of American Canyon.
