Motorcyclist killed in crash on Silverado Trail; driver arrested for felony hit-and-run
A motorcyclist died Tuesday morning in a crash involving a car on the Silverado Trail near Napa, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The motorcyclist, riding a 2020 Kawasaki Ninja, was southbound on the Silverado Trail early Tuesday when the driver of a 2004 Honda Civic, traveling in the opposite direction, allegedly tried to made a left-hand turn into a driveway between Hardman Avenue and Trancas Street, according to the CHP. The motorcyclist and the Honda Civic collided.
The motorcyclist, who was wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the CHP.
The driver of the Civic, Erik Reyes Garcia, 34, of Napa, allegedly fled the scene on foot, according to the CHP. He was found and arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run, according to the CHP, which responded to the crash a little before 6:30 a.m.
Garcia was transported to Queen of the Valley Medical Center and medically cleared. He was then booked into the Napa County jail, according to the CHP. Bail was $50,000, according to the booking log.
Neither drugs nor alcohol appear to be a factor in the crash, according to the CHP.
The identity of the motorcyclist has not been released.
Silverado Trail was closed to traffic for about three hours.
On Sunday, the CHP responded to another fatal crash, where six vineyard workers were killed when a van crashed in Pope Valley. The driver of the van, who alleged was driving under the influence, was charged Tuesday with multiple felonies, according to court records.
