Teen WILD seeks participants

Teen WILD (Wilderness Inspired Leadership & Development) is a year-long teen volunteer program offered by the American Canyon Community & Parks Foundation. Participants help the Parks Foundation engage the community in nature-based play, environmental education and making healthy choices for the mind and body.

Teen WILD is a 12-month commitment starting in May to volunteering with the Parks Foundation at community events, environmental education and conservation programs.

Participants can design, plan and host nature-based community events. They can expect to earn 20-25 hours of volunteer credit with one to two opportunities each month. They can choose a focused service project (conservation, environmental education or community outreach).

Teen WILD is open to teens entering grades 9 through 12 in fall 2025. Participants will be required to attend orientation on Sunday, May 18, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Parks Foundation offices and quarterly planning meetings. Applications close May 2.

For more information, visit website. For additional questions about Teen WILD, contact Andrea Long, Community Program Director at andrea@acparks.org.

The Wall That Heals is coming to American Canyon

The Wall That Heals, a three-quarter-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, along with a mobile Education Center, is coming to American Canyon from Oct. 16-19.

Unveiled in Washington D.C., on Veterans Day, 1996, The Wall That Heals is 375 feet long and 7.5 feet high. It is designed to travel, transported in a 53-foot trailer. When parked, the trailer opens with exhibits built into its sides, allowing it to serve as a mobile Education Center telling the story of the Vietnam War, The Wall and the divisive era in American history.

It has visited nearly 800 communities. In 2024 it traveled 20,000 miles stopping 29 communities, honoring the more than 3 million Americans who served in the U.S. Armed Forces in the Vietnam War. It bears the names of the 58,281 men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in Vietnam.

When it stops, it is open 24 hours a day and free to the public, who experience The Wall rising above them as they walk towards its apex, a key feature of the design of The Wall in Washington, D.C. Visitors can do name rubbings of individual service member’s names on The Wall.

“We are honored to welcome The Wall That Heals to American Canyon,” said American Canyon Mayor Pierre Washington, who is also Jr. Vice Commander for the Napa/Vallejo Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 1123.

“This exhibit is a meaningful opportunity for our community to honor the courage and sacrifice of Vietnam veterans and their families. Hosting The Wall That Heals reflects our deep respect for those who have served and provides an important chance to educate future generations about this pivotal chapter in our nation’s history.”

American Canyon invites individuals and businesses to support this initiative through sponsorship and volunteer opportunities. See city website.
